Clockwork Orange wine at Jaynes

Above: That’s our friend Dario at the Dama Bianca near Trieste (Friuli, Italy) pouring some “orange wine.” The transnational appellation Collio, saddling Slovenia and Friuli, is where a number of “orange wine” producers are based — Vodopivec, Gravner, Movia. We’ll be pouring Movia this Sunday at Jaynes.

Two of our favorite wine writers, Eric Asimov and Alice Feiring wrote about “orange wine” this week.

At Jaynes we call it “Clockwork Orange wine,” only because we dig groovy films by Stanley Kubrick. Clockwork Orange wine is neither red nor white — see the color of the wine in the photo above. It is made using white grapes: the winemaker lets the juice macerate (steep or soak) with the skins, which give the wine the rich color.

We’ll be pouring the wines of one of our favorite producers of Clockwork Orange wine on Sunday: Movia (Slovenia).

Mention this post to Jayne and you just might get to taste a special bottle of Clockwork Orange wine not listed in the official flight.
