Hanging with Ales Kristiancich of Movia
One of our new favorite wineries at Jaynes these days is anything by Slovenian producer Movia. So we were really excited to get to meet Ales Kristiancich (above) and his wife Vesna in San Francisco Tuesday night at the Wine and Spirits Magazine top 100 wines of the world wine tasting.
During the tasting, Ales gave Jon some pointers on how to open his crazy wine Puro. It’s a champagne method wine that Ales doesn’t disgorge. In other words, he leaves the sediment (mostly lees or dead yeast) in the wine and it has be disgorged before being served. In the photo above, he is showing Jon the sediment in the bottle (which has been stored upside down).
Check out this awesome post and tasting notes in our friend Brooklyguy’s blog.
We were introduced to Ales by our resident sommlier Jeremy Parzen whose band Nous Non Plus played a gig at the winery in Slovenia earlier this year! Jeremy’s blog was in Eric Asimov’s The Pour today, on the Brunello debate. Eric often links to Jeremy’s blog as a resource on Italian wine. Jeremy will be pouring at the restaurant tonight so come on down. Looking forward to seeing you.
